Mandatory Commercial Recycling

Assembly Bill 341: Mandatory Commercial Recycling

Who:       Businesses and public entities that generate four cubic yards or more of waste per week and multi-family       housing of five or more units are required to recycle.

What:      Assembly Bill (AB) 341 provides authority for the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery   (CalRecycle) to implement a mandatory commercial recycling program statewide.

When:     On October 6, 2011 Governor Brown signed AB 341 into law to be effective July 1, 2012.

Why:       The purpose of this new state law is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting commercial solid waste   from landfills and expanding opportunities for recycling in California.

How:       There are several options available to meet the requirements of the law:

  • Contact Moore Bros. to set up cardboard collection service at (209) 962-7224
  • Self-haul recyclables to the Moore Bros. drop off center at 11300 Wards Ferry Rd. Big Oak Flat, California or to any recycling center.
  • Donate your recyclables to a charitable cause.

A provision of the law requires local jurisdictions to monitor businesses. Your business may be contacted by the Tuolumne County Solid Waste Division to gather information on the success of your commercial recycling program.
